Professional Bio

Jackie Gianico has extensive experience teaching adult and post-secondary international students in intensive English programs. She periodically teaches APLNG200, facilitating students’ interest in linguistics, language change, and language learning. In the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences, Jackie also regularly teaches Effective Speech (CAS100A), emphasizing the rhetorical canons of delivery and style, often engaging in classroom practices based on her experience with local community and improvisational theatre. Her research interests include the landscape of intensive English programs and the intersection of performance and pedagogy. As a member of local performance group, Happy Valley Improv, Jackie leads workshops on using improvisational practices for communication, leadership, and pedagogy for units and groups on campus.
