Professional Bio

Areas of Interest: Narrative Inquiry; Qualitative Research Methodology; Linguistic Justice and Equity.

Merve’s current research interests include narrative inquiry, storytelling for social justice purposes, discourse analysis, qualitative research methodology, and linguistic justice and equity through translingualism. She is especially interested in analyzing how diverse social facets such as power, gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity intersect within people’s narratives and thereby inform the construction of social meanings and realities. She is also interested in exploring the interplay between language and trauma, particularly trauma writing and narration. In addition, currently, she is working on a grant project with her cohort to promote linguistic justice among the speakers of different Englishes in the U.S. university context by creating an educational video series teaching translingual communication strategies to American undergraduate students.
